Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is Nunavut's sole electricity utility. Through the commitment and expertise of our employees, we operate 25 stand-alone diesel power plants—one in each of Nunavut's communities. Our mission is to provide comfort and warmth to our communities by delivering reliable and responsible energy in Canada's True North.
As an off-grid utility with no interconnection to the North American power grid, QEC relies primarily on diesel generation. Recognizing the importance of reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, we are actively pursuing renewable and alternative energy initiatives to transition toward more sustainable and community-driven solutions. Our vision is to create an energized Nunavut powered by alternative energy and community-centered initiatives. In addition to power generation, QEC owns and operates 25 isolated distribution systems, which include substations, powerlines, and metering infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Nunavut is Canada's largest and northernmost territory, encompassing approximately 2 million square kilometers of Arctic landscape. Despite the region's challenging climate and vast geography, Nunavut is rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage. QEC plays a vital role in supporting the daily lives of Nunavummiut by ensuring consistent access to electricity across the territory. To support our operations and customers, QEC maintains regional offices in Cambridge Bay, Rankin Inlet, and Iqaluit, with our corporate headquarters located in Baker Lake. Each community also has dedicated plant operators who ensure local reliability and support.
